How gate automation works
A working ANPR gate is a short, dependable loop. Here is the sequence, start to finish:
- Capture. A camera trained on the entry lane picks up the approaching vehicle. A trigger — a loop sensor, a beam, or motion in the frame — tells the system a vehicle is in position.
- Read. The software finds the plate in the frame and converts it to text.
- Match. The plate is checked against your allow list (residents, staff, monthly-pass holders) and block list (banned or flagged vehicles).
- Decide. A known, allowed plate opens the barrier. An unknown plate can be routed to the guard for a manual check, sent to a visitor flow, or held for payment at a parking lot.
- Log. Every event — allowed, blocked or manual — is written to the record with its snapshot for later reporting.
The whole loop runs while the vehicle is still slowing down, so residents and regular staff barely stop. Guards move from copying plates by hand to handling only the exceptions — the visitor, the delivery, the flagged vehicle — where their attention is actually useful.
